Celebrating the life of

Hal Douglas Harris

March 27, 1970 - May 31, 2008

Hal Douglas Harris

Hal Douglas Harris, 38, died at home on May 31, 2008. Born in Madisonville, TN, March 27, 1970, Hal spent most of his life in Savannah. After graduating from Jenkins High School, Hal attended Georgia Tech and Armstrong State College now AASU. Deciding that engineering or nursing could not compete with the call of the open road, Hal left college just short of a degree and turned to a career in trucking. At the time of his death, he was employed by Kenan Transport.

Hal made his profession of faith in Christ and was baptized on May 25, 1980 at First Baptist Church in Port Wentworth, and was a faithful member for a number of years. Thereafter, Hal attended a number of churches and in recent years returned to his "home" church, where he found a great deal of joy singing in the choir.

From his youth, Hal was an avid boater who enjoyed nothing more than sailing with his family and friends. In keeping with his love of sailing, his ashes will be scattered at sea.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annette Kinser Shaver, and grandfathers, Douglas Harris and Hugh Kinser, Sr.

He is survived by his dearly loved daughters, Julia and Sarah Harris; father and stepmother, Karl and Thelma Harris, all of Savannah; brother, David Shaver and wife Amanda, Shreveport, LA; grandmothers, Zenona Harris, Jefferson City, TN; and Ann Kinser, Madisonville, TN; aunts, Paula Wolfe Gary, Jonesville, VA; Diann Wolf Daune, Athens, TN; and uncles, Kim Harris Lois Anne, Liberty, MO; Hubert Kinser Freda Madisonville, TN; Hugh Kinser Jane, Oak Ridge, TN; and beloved cousins.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7th, at First Baptist Church in Port Wentworth, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m.

No flowers please. Contributions in Hal's memory may be made to First Baptist Church for youth activities, P.O. Box 4066, Port Wentworth, GA 31407, or charity of donor's choice.

Our sincerest sympathy for your loss. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. The AASU Alumni Association

Hal is a very good friend of mine. Just because he is in heaven doesn't mean we can't talk to him, we can talk to him through God. We met while he was working in Birmingham and continued our friendship over the telephone after he went home. I know that Hal is walking with God, he now has joy unspeakable and will never face another trial. God has delivered him from this earth and taken him home with him. I love Hal very much and I know without a doubt I will see him again in heaven. Hal, you no longer need my prayers, but I am praying for your family. God loves you very much and He loves your family. Sarah, Julia, just know that your daddy is doing fine and he still loves you. When you need to talk to him, just tell God what you want your dad to know, I believe God will tell him, if you want to give your dad a hug, just ask God to hug him for you. Elizabeth, God bless you, thank you for letting me know about him. I just want you all to know how much Hal means to me. He will forever be in my heart. I thank God that He brought Hal into my life, he made such a difference in my life. Since I've been going through a difficult time, it made my day to get home and talk to him. I will miss him with all of my heart. Since God is with us, and Hal is with God, that means that Hal is with us also. Hal, I love you. Lori

Zenona, Karl, Thelma, Hal's beautiful we are told daughters, Kim, Paula, and all the other family and friends, Barbara's my sister comments were when I told her that Zenona had called us with the crushing news, 'Zenona is a woman of the cloth--very tall and strong and will go to the side of her and Douglas's firstborn and will be able to lift him up.' I could not have said it better--all of you are strong in the faith and God's strength is sufficient. Douglas and Zenona have no doubt stood by many people who have suffered such losses and they did so as witnesses thru their ministry. Think of every good and joyful time you shared together and know that where God is that Hal Douglas is and he will never leave you. May peace and comfort and strong arms of God hold all of you. We love you very much. Don and Lisa and Sara send their love and prayers--sorry we can only be with you in spirit! God Bless you forever! Rebecca Landolt and Cordie Maie Dublin
